The spicy scenes were great - and, not gonna lie, that's the entire reason I read this book bc I didn't like ACOTAR that much. I have some qualms with a lot of the rest of the story. The Valkyries were an unexpected and welcomed surprise.

After ACOFAS, I was anxious for Nesta to have her healing journey and it did not disappoint! Nesta’s story was incredibly inspiring and I was cheering for her the whole way through. As for the book as a whole, the writing felt a little more unbalanced than previous books in the ACOTAR series. The political storyline with Briallyn and the Trove didn’t blend as seamlessly with Nesta’s healing journey as the quest for the Book of Breathings did with Feyre’s in ACOMAF. I loved the book and I love the series, but there were moments where I was taken out of the story because I was trying to figure out how the pieces fit together. Despite this feeling of unbalance, it did come together by the end and it was totally worth it! Most importantly, I loved getting to know Gwyn and Emerie and I hope to see a lot more of them in future stories!!

this was an absolute disaster.
there was no real plot, no actual romance (just pure smut), and nothing of substance happened until the last 50 pages, and even that was resolved way too easily, but who’s surprised, anyway. no one ever dies in this series, even the side characters.

while, i love Nesta and she’s my favorite character, by far, this just wasn’t what i wanted nor expected from her book. it wasn’t focused on her healing at all, and instead it was focused on her and Cassian fucking 24/7 and never actually having a real, normal conversation.
how was Nesta supposed to heal and deal with her trauma when the IC is constantly insulting her, trying to send her away, forcing her to train against her will, and on top of that her mate takes her on a hike in the mountains when she’s on the verge of being suicidal. like i’m sorry but what??

additionally, the amount of smut in this book was completely unnecessary as they were fucking, literally, every chapter (and i skipped it all).

on the other hand, the best part of the book was her relationship with Emerie and Gwyn. their friendship is so pure and full of understanding, i love them so much and they’re by far my favorite friendship in the entirety of the SJM universe.

just to mention, because i can’t not: i already hated Rhysand before this book, but now... i have no words.
how are the girlies still calling him a feminist king after what he did here?

overall, i’d love to give this 5 stars, because Nesta deserve it, but this book has so many problems (some of which i won’t mention in order to keep this spoiler free) that i just simply can’t.
