I really had no clue what to expect going into this book, and truthfully didn't know anything about it since I never see anybody talk about it as much as the first 3 books in this series. And after falling in love with the characters from those three, I was very hesitant to get invested in this one since I wasn't sure how I felt about Nesta as a character. But I'm SOO glad I read this one. This book hit so close to home, and honestly made me cry (or want to cry) multiple times, especially the last half of the book. There's just so much character development, I love the chemistry between characters, loved the friendships that grow throughout. There's just so much to love. My ONLY qualm about this book was part of the plot toward the end

I didn't understand why Briallyn was defeated so quickly? It felt like the whole book was leading up to some big battle and then she was supposedly defeated within like 5 paragraphs because Nesta happened to get her powers back. It just felt a little anti-climactic to me.

But despite that, I still loved reading this book and I can't wait to see future novels in this series, when they do come along.

This book could have been 200 pages shorter and it would have been just as good if not better. The last 150 pages of it really sold me to the rest of the book (how typical of SJM).

This is my least favorite book of SJM.
I Just finished reading it for the second time and I am sticking with my low rating. I found myself caring more about the lore and the politics than the characters and what they were doing. Unlike in her other books I had to constantly remind myself that they are fictional beings to help suspend my belief.

Smut scenes were spicy, and nest and cassia very well developed. I loved that nests point of view exposed and different kind of perestcive on the golden trio, and showed their possible unreliable narration. Rhysaand was treating Fayre in some of the ways that readers notoriously hate Tamlin for. Watching Nesta master her powers was an amazing arc, as well as the focus on fmelae unity. However plot points surrounding the villain were weak and slow and boring. Didnt understand the point of the ending when she gives up her powers, its seems sarah j maas was grappling forna prooer storyline outside of the charaters. Was slow paced at times. Plot points about Nesta and her friendships etc were gripping.

A beautiful and heart wrenching story of facing trauma, finding people who understand, and coming out the other side a badass with hope again. Oh, and fairy smut.
