Boy, was this a SPICY book.

I didn’t expect it to be this spicy, considering the past few books having a nice mix of politics and war in it. While this book did have some action, a lot of it was a romance, which I did enjoy a lot.

I always liked Nesta, even though she was such an unlikeable character the past few books, but the character development in this book was so good. She really got her redemption arc, while it also worked to tell us a little more about the other characters. Her determination and attitude made her a really fun character to read about.

I do wish it had a little more of Feyre and Rhys just because I’m so used to their POV with the past few books and I felt there wasn’t much except about the baby. Regardless, I loved Cassian and Nesta’s hate to love dynamic, and was delighted with the depiction of Nesta and her female friendships.

Their friendship was so wholesome and needed to kind of break up how dark parts of this book were. Overall, really liked getting to learn more about Nesta, and I hope the next few books announced lean into Elain and Azriel so we can get to know them more.

if there is one thing that sjm can do incredibly well, it is writing mental health, it is writing the worst lows that have no apparent end and how those lows do not have to be constant. how suffering does not have to be experienced alone. that all of it begins when you come to that grave realisation that something is terribly wrong, and that there is a life we are all worthy of experiencing. that there is hope, and that hope will guide us, through whatever it is that we battle. no battles are fruitless, and nesta is the embodiment of that. whilst trauma will lay upon us open wounds, those open wounds will one day scar. and those scars that may never fade with age will only be just that - scars. this book is a symphony for those who one day thought they'd never make it. but you did. there will always be another tomorrow. the sun will always rise again. so breathe.

I’m officially a Nesta simp! I never hated her, but she wasn’t my favorite, until this book!
I love her journey, & her growth throughout the book, there’s just so much I could say! But basically she is a badass female!
Also, Emerie & Gwyn! I love The trios dynamic! And how they’re there for each other! Let’s go Valkyrie’s!! There are some badass females in this book!!
And Cassian! *dreamy* 🥰
I love his story & getting to hear his side of the journey too! And him & Nesta! Damn! 🔥 #NessianForLife
This whole series has captured my heart!!! I can’t wait for the next book!!! 💜

I thought I’d enjoy this book more since it deals with PTSD (something I can relate to) and while I felt connected to Nesta and loved watching her development, the book made me uncomfortable or bored too often.

The training scenes were so dragged out and repetitive that I often skipped parts of them.

The dialogue in the sex scenes made me so uncomfortable it was so cringey and it only got better towards the end when it wasn’t just driven by lust.

the blood rite scene at the end was so dragged out I actually skimmed through. lot of the pages.

the ending made up for a lot of it so I still give this 3 stars

The ending of this book was an incredible way to show the growth of the characters, importance of reflection, love, and does a wonderful job showcasing mental struggles along with the physical. It also leaves it just open enough that there could be more content, OR a solid bow on the end. I’m very pleased!

I loved A Court of Mist and Fury, but I think I like this one a little more. Nesta’s trauma, as well as the trauma of others, is so well-written. It made me pause and reflect on my own feeling, even if our experiences were nothing alike.

Sarah J Mass’ storytelling has greatly improved since the beginning of ACOTAR. The sex scenes are still a little cringy, but they’re better. The character development in this book is also very good, along with the worldbuilding. Sarah J Mass has done a great job at building a believable world and characters that really draw you in. I look forward to the next installment.
