An intelligent romance where both the hero and the heroine support each other as they battle their inner demons in order to gain happiness. Highly recommended

Just ok, I've read worse. It seems to be very difficult to find a romance author I like.

Redemption and love in a historical romance? Sign me the bloody hell up.

First off, I didn’t enjoy this as much as the first one but still found it very gripping and I didn’t want to put it down, but life got in the way which is why it took me a long time to finish it. Although it was nice to prolong the story a bit. But from the get go I was drawn to Violet, I truly, truly felt for her and wish I could just give her a big long hug and tell her it would be okay. It takes a lot for me to feel that way toward a character, especially so early on in a story, before I even knew everything. I just felt for her and it made me so sad. It’s just so well written and it even had some suspenseful moments.

There was just so much grief and anger to this story and I revelled in it. In this particular series these characters go through quite a bit to get their happy ending and it’s not inconspicuous situations that’s interrupting their lives, it’s heavy loaded circumstances. Situations that do take a toll on people and shape who they later become. The hero and heroine knew each other before, and even had a tendre for each other. They became separated a few years previous, and the years that they were apart were not kind to either of them. They both went through their troubles and both had to face a lot demons to get their ending. It was so satisfying to read. They flowed off of each other quite well, you can tell that they had a history and knew each other well. They never pushed each other for information on their pasts and instead waited until the other person was ready to speak, I cannot stand it in books when a character gets all standoffish when another character isn’t ready to share their burden. That’s not healthy. Whilst both of their pasts does strongly interfere with both their presents it all ends satisfyingly happy in the end.

I usually don’t like stories where characters have to be together to feel ‘whole’ again, but these two were just so broken that they found comfort within each other. A second chance at love will always help you overcome situations that have transpired whilst apart. I was enthralled from the get go.
