Good short stories with albus dumbledore's thoughts about each story
I first read Beedle the Bard in the original edition and I loved the stories and the morals behind them.
Dumbeldore's notes take each story to a deeper level, and sometimes even a darker level, with sarcasm, wit and pure cheekiness!
The addition of illustrations by Chris Riddell is simply brilliant! Not only are the illustrations rich and colourful, but they bring the stories to life in a unique and glorious way! Pure eye candy!
Harry Potter fan or not, this is surely a must have on your shelves - to add that prettiness factor anywhere!

I wanted to give it 3* but i added one because it helps raising funds for children in need so at least this book has a helpful purpose.

The bedtime book I wish I had as a child.
As an adult who experiences countless sleepless nights, I found solace in this book, also a way to set right the troubled childhood.
This is my first book by J.K. Rowling, and I see why her writing has captivated so many around the world.
I am yet to read the Harry Potter series, which is something the child in me, always hungry for stories, is eagerly looking forward to.

I loved this book! Although short it's always nice to get a little more of the Harry Potter world. I'm not sure what fairy tale was my favourite, I thought they had much better hidden meanings than Muggle fairy tales do. Maybe these are the stories Muggle children should have read to them? The reason it's four stars is because I wish it was a little longer and the stories had a bit more detail, apart from that it was fantastic :)
The Tales of Beedle the Bard was fabulous. Lately I've been in a fairy tale loving mood and these being Harry Potter equivalents just make them even more worth the read.
The way J.K. Rowling wrote these stories were as if the tales were written by Beedle. Then after each story Albus Dumbledore went in and wrote his ideas about the meaning of each story. The only time the illusion of Dumbledore and Beedle were broken was when J.K. Rowling went in with a footnote to explain to us Muggles what some words/references meant.
I can definitely see myself reread these. Who knows, maybe I'll read these tales to my children instead of some by The Brothers Grimm. Then again, my children will probably be eccentric enough that confusing them with tales meant to be read to non-Muggle children might be pushing it.

This is actually my third or fourth time reading this book, but for some reason I've never added it on goodreads.
I think this is an amazing collection! I love fairy tales, in fact I've studied the Brothers Grimm and Hans Christian Andersen's tales way more than anyone without an English degree should have. The stories in this book are fantastic! Part of the fun of growing up with the Harry Potter books was that the younger you are the more open you were to believing in a parallel world where witches and wizards exist along side muggles. I love this book for adding to that feeling. These are supposedly tales all the witches and wizards were read when they were very young. They feel like real fairy tales that were written more than a hundred years ago! I also enjoyed the notes from Albus Dumbledore that tie this book in with some of the ideas the Harry Potter series raises. It is just a really fun, quick read!

I wish this had been longer! My favorite was The Fountain Of Fair Fortune.
