I wavered between 3 and 4 stars. For Character depth, interaction and familial relationships, this book gets 4 stars at least. That part of it (which I assume is the main point) was stellar. The world building started out GREAT and I was intrigued, but as I read the end and realized that a LOT of questions are completely unanswered, or only vaguely answered...is the reason for the 3 stars. With a little more care and attention to the world these people inhabit, this could have been a 5 star book easily! Good stuff though. Will read more from Howey.

Love my dystopian futuristic fiction and this is a particularly good example. Also love the fact the author writes consistently strong and well developed female characters. Thoroughly enjoyable. Hope there's more in this series but I fear not.

I very much enjoyed Hugh Howey's Silo trilogy(Wool, Shift, and Dust), and originally thought this might be an addition to the series before I read the blurb! I enjoy post apocalyptic and dystopian reads very much and this one was not disappointing! The old world has been buried under sand, and the survivors(generations later) fight out a life against the sand while the skilled sand divers use specialized equipment to dive beneath the dunes and bring up bits of the old world.

After reading the Silo series, this was a disappointment. The whole novel was adjectives with poorly developed plot and characters.
