Hugh Howey does it again

For the post apocalyptic fans Hugh Howey brings the worlds he creates to life. Sand Omnibus was a fantastic read.

The book started out a lot slower than the others in his previous series, it was difficult to feel attached to any of the characters in the beginning, however, it became much more gripping in the middle. The ordeals of the people living in constantly moving sand was portrayed quite well. There was a bit of mention of legends according to these people, I wish he had spent more time on that, the religion (or lack there of) was highly absent.

The ending, as usual, left a lot open to imagine. It is simultaneously my favorite and annoying part of his books.

I was hoping that it would pick up where the last book had left off, since most of them were tied together, but this one didn't explain what happened to the people in the silos who had escaped. That, by far, was the part that bothered me.

Over all this was a great read!

This book is the first part of the series and didn't work on its own. Most of the book was like a slow introduction. I felt like only at the very end book got to the point, but it was too little and then it just stopped. I understand that the author has to save some mystery for the sequels, but this book gave ridiculously little information.

Sand reminded me a lot of Howey's Silo book I have read before (in favor of the Silo, I have to say that the first part of that series answered the reader's questions better than Sand, still without revealing too much). Howey seems to be one of those authors who write the same book over and over again, only changing details.

I am extremely disappointed with Sand. It gets one star because the opening scene was interesting.

I was enthralled from the beginning. Howdy definitely thinks outside the box. The ending felt a little hurried and disappointing but perhaps it was a good set up for what is to come....
