Really disappointing. I read this on the strength of the Silo Series, but this doesn't even hold a candle to it. The world building was weak, I lost track of which character was which in the family and really didn't care for the plot. I'm reluctant to try another Hugh Howey book for fear that the Silo books were an aberration.
Just shy of 3 stars, really, but what the hell. Took me forever to get into this - didn't really happen until around 60-70% into the book, which I normally wouldn't have pushed on to get to, but it's Hugh, so. I did end up liking the family, the younger kids in particular, and the last 2 lines of the book were really beautiful.
Not as good as Wool, but a fun little read with some original ideas.
A post-apocalyptic future world where everything is drowning in sand dunes and divers plunge under the sand to discover treasure. It's another wonderful world created by Howey along with an engaging story and captivating characters. It's not as good as Wool, but it's a pretty fun ride.
Maybe I was expecting too much after reading Wool. The whole thing was pretty meh. I was thinking 3-stars but the sand diving technology kept on bothering me so it dropped to a 2.
