A great post-apocalyptic story of a family struggling to survive and overcoming their differences to be do what is best for themselves and those around them. Really made me think of the movie Waterworld with Kevin Costner, but this time it was sand everywhere. Hugh showed off his talents of twisting a SciFi story and weaving his own world with the use of creativity and technology.

I am always drawn in by Howey’s incredible world building and character development. Something about his worlds feel simultaneously so foreign and so familiar. I can’t wait to read the next one!

Het begon goed, het middenstuk was erg spannend en het einde was tegenvallend. Waarom dacht ik dat het verhaal nog 50 pagina`s kon doorgaan terwijl er nog maar 4 over waren? Het voelt alsof de auteur geen zin meer had om het af te maken en het een beetje heeft afgekapt. Jammer, want het idee was goed. De worldbuilding viel ook wat tegen. Er was een kaart , ik hou van kaarten, maar die had niet veel nut want je zag niet alle plekken. Er staan zelfs plekken op die niet langs niet komen in het verhaal.
Er zijn wel tien verschillende woorden voor verschillende soorten zand, maar begrippen als 'het schuimen van zand' wordt dan weer niet uitgelegd.
