A cute, wholesome story with a slow-burn romance (by the end of vol.1 they still aren't a couple) between a girl from a prestigious girls' school and a boy from the very un-prestigious boys' school next door. Students from the schools pretty much hate each other, the boys thinking the girls are all spoiled princesses and the girls thinking the boys are all no-good delinquents. The male lead, Rintaro, has a reputation for being scary because he's so tall, but he's actually a nice guy worn down from strangers & acquaintances always being scared of him. He meets the female lead, Kaoruko, when she comes to his family's patisserie as a customer and (strangely) is not afraid of him! But when he finds out she's from the rival school, he worries she'll change her mind about him and turn away. Can their relationship survive the prejudices and pressures surrounding them?

Rintaro is a sympathetic character (I was 'freakishly tall' too as a kid ;P), and when we find out a bit more about Kaoruko she's not a manic pixie dream-girl - she has her own struggles and insecurities. We get hints of depth to a few of the main side-characters, too (friends of Rintaro and Kaoruko), so it's not a case of 'two love interests and everyone else is cardboard'. I'm interested to see how the story continues.

Content concerns: so far, no sex, nudity, or making out; no swearing, no drinking, no drugs; occasional mild violence (the odd push or punch) and intimidation (boys tough-guy posturing or looming over girls)

Thank you Netgally for this ARC! Here is my honest opinion!

I really enjoyed this manga and look forward to the next volume!
* The characters are really lovable! I enjoy watching their relationship bloom!
* The tropes are predictable but I still love it because the characters relationship is so sweet and innocent.
* An easy story to read and get into!

Read chapters 1-5 on KManga.

I love the "grumpy one is soft for the sunshine one" trope and the bakery family business aspect. This is a high school slice-of-life/probably romance. I'll likely give this another volume and see if it gets too much into high school drama for me.
