I love reading Greek mythology retellings because every author takes the role of each character so different that their perspectives might transform them from a villain to a hero depending on the point of view. That never seems to be the case with Theseus though, no matter what I read I’m always wanting him to burn in hell by the end of it

Oof. I really wish I could say I enjoyed this or that I disagreed with the reviews but I would be lying. I really wanted to believe this wasn’t anti-feminist but it really did take some amazing feminist mythology and warped the stories to highlight the least feminist aspects. The mythology was inaccurate and selective and the history was also wrong (there weren’t triremes during the time of the Trojan War).

I was very close to DNFing this book multiple times but I didn’t mostly because the plot at least moved, but I truly don’t have anything else I really enjoyed.

3 stars because it won’t let me do 2.5.

Hannah Lynn SLAYED this book. I will read whatever she writes.

I only got a small glimpse of the Amazons in a Thousand Ships and I wanted to know more. Hannah Lynn LITERALLY DELIVERED 🔥gorgeous, heart breaking and fierce.

I feel similarly to this as I do Hannah Lynn's other books. There is something different she does with the retellings that isn't inherently bad but I do question the choices the makes for the characters.
It feels like the intentionally makes them "weaker". For more nuance? I don't know. I don't dislike it but I also don't love it. Her books are just fine and while the writing itself I think i excellent, her storytelling isn't what I want from a Greek myth retelling.

This was so easy to read! Brilliant characters and story. War, heartbreak, powerful women, so good! Will read this again and anything else by this author!
