Big thank you to the author for sending a book and bookish goodies!
I don't usually like accurate retellings of Greek mythology, because no matter how much I love it, it is still quite misogynistic. While the author tried to avoid it, I think it was still incredibly hard thing to do if you want to stay accurate to the original myths.
I found Hippolyte weak and unlovable character and Penthesilea not much better. That's why I prefer when these stories are not quite so close to the original myths and are more author's takes on the myth.

A good exploration of the different types of love people have for others. My main issue was how long the book was. But I couldn’t tell you what needed to be cut, so maybe just me.

I read this book in a single day. Lynn has created a beautiful, heartbreaking, and moving reflection of Greek mythology and I enjoyed it a lot. I knew next to nothing about this particular mythological tale walking into this book, but Lynn painted an excellent picture, informing and entertaining with her words.
She has a beautiful writing style, and I found myself both engaged and learning from this book. I know I’m not alone when I say that I sometimes find Greek mythology retellings hard to follow, but this one was a breeze. And although easy to follow, it was in no way simplistic or daft.
I did, however, find this book a little tedious as it went through the motions of travel and war, skipping decades in a single page. In saying this, that is purely a personal preference, and I think many readers will enjoy the pacing and in-depth description.
This was a solid read and I would recommend it to all 14+ lovers of mythology, as well as readers that like a historical take on feminism. I gave this book 3.5/5 stars.
