I really enjoyed this book by the former German Chancellor, which i read in preparation for a trip to Germany. The best part of the book described her years growing up in East Germany, including how the wall divided her family, her education including her Ph.D in chemical physics, and the years following the the end of the GDR. I also really enjoyed Merkel’s perspective on the last few years on the world political scene, particularly her take on Putin, Trump, and Obama, and on Germany’s reaction to Covid and Brexit (altho there was not much on Boris Johnson). I did get lost in the portions in which Merkel was climbing the ranks in the party- I kept getting the parties mixed up and i could not keep track of their acronyms. Otherwise this book provided a good overview of Germany in the last 50 years from the perspective of its first female leader.

Sehr interessant
