Although it is better than Endymion, it still suffers from an agonizingly cringey romance plot (I will never hear “kiddo” the same way ever again), an obnoxious protagonist, and from overall missing the atmosphere and depth that made the first two novels the masterpieces they are. Its not the worst thing I’ve ever read, but it is still an immense letdown. The book also wastes multiple opportunities to explore plotlines the first two books left dangling.

This is one of the greatest things I've read and I'm absolutely heartbroken that the saga is over. I've spent this year reading all four books and burying my psyche is this amazing universe and its riveting characters. Anyone who's spent time with me this year has probably heard me rave about these books and this final book was the best of them all. Absolutely beautiful. Epic. Wonderfully written. I had figured out several aspects of the ending and it was still breathtaking to read how they played out. I'm so sad this ride is over and so grateful to have taken it. These books will have me thinking for a long time.

Well, after [b:Hyperion|77566|Hyperion (Hyperion Cantos, #1)|Dan Simmons|https://d.gr-assets.com/books/1332885131s/77566.jpg|1383900] you expect no less book but meanwhile you feel that even the third book of the series was not so great as the first ones. But you also know there's no chance not to read Endymion, there are still so much questions left unanswered.
I'd say this is also great book, but suffers as all sequels do, especially the sequels of masterpieces.

Niestety najsłabsza z całej serii. Przede wszystkim ze względu na perspektywę Endymiona, która jest tutaj bardzo dominująca. Raul kontynuuje bycie irytującą i niezbyt interesującą postacią. Jego wewnętrzne (i zewnętrzne) rozterki często doprowadzały mnie do frustracji - pojawiają się wątki, które eskalowały wszystkie złe cechy jego postaci i testowały moją cierpliwość do granic możliwości.
Wszystkie wątki, które świetnie grały w poprzedniej książce, tutaj zostały zepchnięte na margines, lub całkowicie porzucone. Szkoda, bo książka jest dosyć długa i zdecydowanie było miejsce na rozwinięcie niektórych rzeczy, a zamiast tego Simmons poszedł w zupełnie innym kierunku. Myślę tutaj przede wszystkim o relacjach Endymion-A.bettik-Statek. Było tutaj tyle potencjału, niestety zmarnowanego.
De Soya również został mocno skrzywdzony. Było go decydowanie za mało, a przecież to chyba najciekawsza postać z całej dylogii (zaraz za moim ulubionym Statkiem oczywiście), a wątek jego i jego załogi był bardzo obiecujący. W poprzedniej książce Simmons postawił wiele fundamentów, które w tej części kompletnie olał. Szkoda, bo był potencjał na coś super, a w moich oczach wyszedł średniak. Może komuś innemu spodobają się decyzje autora, ale ja oczekiwałem czegoś zupełnie innego.
Jako finał serii, książka działa całkiem nieźle. Wszystko zostało solidnie spięte, chociaż niedosyt trochę pozostaje. Podejrzewam, że gdyby zagłębić się dokładnie we wszystkie zawiłości czasowe, to znalazło by się trochę dziur; sam miałem kilka momentów gdzie postanowiłem nie drążyć tematu, bo rozbolałaby mnie głowa.
Seria Hyperion to moje pierwsze poważne spotkanie z gatunkiem sci-fi i jestem bardzo usatysfakcjonowany. Bardzo polecam każdemu, jeśli nie całość, to przynajmniej pierwszą dylogię, która ląduje w mojej absolutnej czołówce przeczytanych książek.

Reading this series felt like a true journey with the characters, especially the second half (books 3 and 4). I would say everything in the series makes it iconic: the characters, the style, the worlds we visit... The ending is unforgettable.
