This is not the first or even the fifth time reading this book but it is the first time in at least 10 years. It holds up extremely well and is a classic for many good reasons. The writing actually less dry than I remember it, which was a pleasant surprise. Anyway Dune rules.

I read crappy self-help books and romance novels and think to myself “Pshhh, I can write a book.” And then I read science fiction and fantasy books as great as this one and realize “uhhh… maybe I should leave writing to the pros.”
In this book, Paul Atreides and his family move from their home planet, Caladan, to live on Arrakis (Dune), a planet known for its spice. Here, spice is life and water is limited. The dessert planet is harsh and full of giant sandworms, sandstorms, and other mysteries, such as the Fremen “natives” who’s distinct characteristic is their deep blue eyes (a result of high quantities of spice in their diet). Just as Paul and his family are getting settled, a treacherous plot unfolds that brings down House Atreids leaving few members of the house alive. Paul then goes into hiding where he hones a prophetic skill and seeks to one day obtain revenge for his family.
I thoroughly enjoyed this book and am in awe of the level of detail, research, and imagination it took to write such an amazing story. I’ve already added its sequels to my to-be-read pile!

The worldbuilding is amazing, but I just couldn’t connect to the character. Seems like an amazing scifi story yet I didn’t feel it and it kept on lingering on and on for me
