I see why this is a classic, but it’s not quite my cup of tea. So much politics! Just pages and pages of EVIL PLOTTING and detailed descriptions of facial expressions and tones of voice. Paul is not very likeable either. He reminds me very much of Ender Wiggins in that he is very cold and aloof, however outrageously competent at everything he does. It seems like he was designed to be an incels wet dream of what they think they want to be. Actually, everyone was pretty terrible in this book. Duke Leto was the only likeable character and that sure doesn’t last.

Enjoyed it a lot. Even if you've seen the movie it's well worth reading. Hearing the characters thoughts as they cleverly maneuver conversations was very good.

Starts off slow but really picks up the pace at the end. If he'd wanted this book could have been much longer given how much he packs into the last third.

“No more terrible disaster could befall your people than for them to fall into the hands of a hero.”

If I could give this 10 stars, trust me i would. Never have I read a book, with world building quite as strong and incredible as this. Rarely, have I read a book this well developed, with characters so complex, a plot so immersive and interesting, and writing so effective. This is WITHOUT A DOUBT, one of my favorite books now. I’m talking top 5. Maybe top 3. I mean this was just amazing. I am so in love with this story and the complexity of the world, the plot and it’s characters. Frank Herbert is a goddamn genius and I 100% understand why this is called one of the greatest science fiction novels ever written, and him a master of modern science fiction. I recommend this book to absolutely anyone. Yes, it is confusing at first, but please please read this. One cannot go on without reading this. I will start the second book immediately. I hope that it is as good as the first one. This was an incredible experience. I was blown away in the first couple pages. You know when you read a really good book, and then at the end, a major plot twist hits, and you’re left mind blown, and at loss for words because it was so well done. THAT happened every 3 chapters here, I kid you not. This is a literary masterpiece. THANK YOU FRANK HERBERT. (ps. leto ily).

I think Dune would have benefitted from being longer - at times it seemed to jump ahead weeks/years without warning.
Needed more character development and more worms.
Otherwise, I enjoyed it (particularly Book 1).

But yes, more worms
