In the early years of the Cross series I read Patterson yearly. Haven't read too many of his partnership books, but this one pulled me in based on the description, and the writing was decent, in the sense it was an easy and quick read.

The plot and characters a bit too unbelievable. Jenny was confusing....denying her admiration for her dad while constantly quoting him. Her brothers more confusing, and none of them were credible in any way. Too many bad guys all wanting to run San Francisco and/or the NFL team. No true red herrings, just all bad guys.

The ending was plain irritating, with another quote that seems just off. Maybe Jenny was a sociopath I don't know....the quotes she admires would seem to indicate that. Is the ending meant to indicate a sequel? Not sure, but I ended up not being drawn to any of the characters except for the kids on the high school football team. They seemed believable.

Even if there is a sequel, and even if I feel the need for a quick read, I won't pick it up because I don't care enough about Jenny to see what develops in her life. That's a shame because initially I liked her, and the plot.
mysterious

Interesting read with a woman trying to take over for her father after his mysterious death.

I read all the Alex Cross books by James Patterson as well as his autobiography, and I really liked his style of writing. As for Mike Lupica, I knew of him from ESPN and that he wrote several sports books.

When I saw this book as an upcoming release in my Amazon Kindle library, I was definitely intrigued. Even more so, when I read the quick summary of it.

Without spoiling it, it’s about a powerful family and the patriarch owns a football team and the local newspaper. Who doesn’t like professional football, high school football, San Francisco, and sibling rivalries? The main character is the narrator, and she is a very strong woman.

As soon as I read the first chapter, I was hooked and couldn’t wait to continue reading to see what happens next. I can easily see this book as a series as the story continues.
