Been reading this on and off for over a month and it’s just not capturing my attention. I’m not the biggest fan of Aladdin, but somehow this is worse.

This is not the Aladdin story you know! It's not for young kids, but good for young adults and up. Our favorite characters from the Disney adaptation are here, but what happens when Aladdin doesn't end up with the lamp? A lot of dark, scary, and horrible things. It's a good, fast read. I wish the chapters had numbers, but they do have titles!

Liz Brazwell took a well known and beloved story and turned it into a much darker story that captured my attention from the first introduction of the world. In this  version she somehow made Jafar more diabolical, and Jasmine more independent and powerful. Really enjoyed this one!

The tag line really should be "What if Abu never stole the lamp?"

I have mixed feelings on this one. I thought the story was interesting on it's own but my familiarity with the characters Disney created for me I think messed up my read of this book. Also I felt that for the book to have been so researched and to have held so many references to the past that some of the wording in conversation between the characters came of as something you would read in a book set in a contemporary time. I rated it higher than I originally was going to just because I feel like I might be too critical on it and others will like it more but I didn't want them to be turned off by a lower rating.

Fun story changing an original story line. I will likely eventually read others in the series. Very easy read.
