I found this a fascinating book - with the exception of the 12 year old pregnant girl, each of these kids reminded me of kids that I have worked with/currently work with. But since this was written in the 80s, it was even more fascinating to see how students with special education needs were treated almost 40 years ago. The author had an excellent manner of writing that pulled me into the stories and made it feel like I was reading fiction. I also appreciated that she didn't pretend to know everything or that she was doing everything right - she was just doing the best she could.
informative reflective medium-paced

I cried a couple of times.
Torey Hayden is an example of the type of person the world needs more of- her completely selfless love for others is incredibly inspiring.
