This was interesting. I enjoyed getting to see things through his perspective. It was nice getting to read about him leaving the band in his own words. It's also about the making of his album Mind of Mine. Perfect for One Direction fans that follow his solo career.

I could write a thesis on the effects of being in entertainment at a young age .

As a minor One Direction fan, I enjoyed this book. It taught me a lot more about who Zayn is as a person, and the ideas and stories in the songs of his first solo album, Mind of Mine. It gave me a new appreciation for his songs, and I'll definitely be listening to more of his music. He wrote the book for his fans to explain why he left One Direction. It was also a very fast read.

It felt a little surface-level, and it wasn't really about his time in one direction. It was interesting, though, and a quick read.
"As long as I can keep making music I'm proud of, I know I'll be happy. And even if I'm not, I'll do it anyway. It's in my blood."

excuse the outrageous amount of quotes i'm going to use in this review, because, holy crap, my love and respect for zayn malik increased by a tenfold after reading this, if that was even possible. i managed to read it all within one sitting.
i was a one direction fan through and through basically from 2011 to their official announcement of a hiatus that's still ongoing. although i, of course, liked zayn, i didn't truly become a huge fan of his until he left. reading this book gave me such a deep insight as to what life was like in the boyband and i'm very glad he got himself out-- i truly believe he would be in a much worse place if he had stayed with them.
in zayn's writing, his passion for what he does is completely transparent. you can tell from his tone and diction how much he loves songwriting and singing. even inserts from his production team included notes of how passionate and creative he is.
i also want to include some of his quotes on anxiety because i believe they explain it really well. i suffer from it, so i was grateful that there was an entire section dedicated to him discussing how he deals with it and what he's had to overcome. the quote, "But anxiety doesn't work in a rational way," really encapsulates what it's like to deal with unnecessary fears on a daily basis; sometimes you feel an overwhelming sense of panic for no good reason.
"That's why my anxiety is so upsetting and difficult to explain. It's this thing that swells up and blocks out your rational thought processes. Even when you know you want to do something, know that it will be good for you, that you'll enjoy it when you're doing it, the anxiety is telling you a different story. It's a constant battle within yourself."
the whole layout of this book was so aesthetically pleasing and included so much of his style that even just flipping through the pages is like he's jumping out at you. there are tons of photoshoots that are sometimes edited into unique formats and childhood pictures and tons of polaroids from recording studios, his shed, and his home. the inclusion of some of the actual scraps of lyrics from his songs was also a really nice touch.
this autobiography isn't really a normal one, per-say. you can feel zayn's atmosphere in the entire book itself, not just the contents in the words, which i think is part of the reason why it was so great to me.
