If you’re reading the physical book by Seven Seas, read the prologue before the glossary! I made the mistake of doing the reverse and basically ruined the reveal at the end of the prologue for myself

i adore revisiting novels i’ve already read before, not only because you get to pick up on so many details you missed out before, but also because you really start realise how much the characters actually developed throughout the story
I want the second volume Seven Seas ;-;

Spoilers.
The yifu thing did bother me but their relationship is hardly that of a guardian. When it comes to danmei, I'm usually a bit more easier to please. I know that translation makes it hard to get the meaning completely. But I fairly enjoyed it. I was surprised by how funny Gu Yun's character was. The steampunk bits were new to me but they were quite interesting. The background politics wasn't as boring as I thought it would be.
There was an initial struggle to get into the book but once I was familiar with the characters, I just wanted to know more. The advice that Gu Yun gave to Chang Geng, to be a simple child and not strive to be hero and his own feelings about his health condition and they way he dealt with them was quite beautiful and realistic.
In all I laughed a lot, felt really bad for the characters and would definitely love to read more.

If I’d known this book dealt with themes of colonialism and oppression all set in a steampunk wuxia universe, I might have picked it up sooner.
