Absolutely loved the development throughout the book, endearing characters and fast paced I was surprised around every turn. Definitely had me on the edge of my seat
Cora, a school teacher out on disability for debilitating headaches, is minding her own business when a man shows up in her kitchen. However, it's happened many times this week so she is not surprised and he is welcoming.
Jane, a rogue FBI agent, has killed many and on the run.
With just a few chapters of the intro, this book sets the stage well for a suspenseful story. I have not read the prequel and do not know if that will come into play. But I look forward to this full read.

I loved the book but thought the characters played into stereotypes too often .
Eh.
This was okay. The descriptive paragraphs lost me and I started skipping over them to get to the point. Great futuristic theme and super creepy. Koontz is a great writer, but I don’t think his books are for me. This was a little long for the amount of content it covered.
I do have to be annoyed about one thing:
Hooowwww cute that Jane is some badass attractive young woman (of course) and all the old men seem to have a crush and a bond with her. *eyeroll* This happened with literally 3, maybe 4 men in this book. C’mon. Can we not?
Maybe I’ll have to start the series one day and read in consecutive order. Until then, 3 stars. Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for my ARC.

Whatever else happens, Dean Koontz can always be relied on to provide a great reading experience. Rogue FBI agent Jane Hawk is back in the sequel to The Silent Corner. The Whispering Room takes up where the first book left off, and Jane is determined to get the whole story out to the public and save the world and herself (and maybe get a little justice for her murdered/programmed suicide husband).
This book managed to trap me within a very few pages and really hold my interest until I'd read it completely. There are not many books which have actually made me miss my bus stop, but this one did. Narrative tension is hard and Koontz makes it look easy. He's a masterful writer and writes well crafted exciting books. This is a solid brick of a book, 528 pages, and I didn't find that it lagged anywhere. Jane encounters a whole host of secondary characters (I <3 Bernie!!!!) but they're described well and mostly introduced serially, so there's no problem with keeping track of who is who.
For fans of thriller/conspiracy/black ops type books (Clive Cussler, Lee Child, Robert Crais & co., I'm lookin' at you!), Jane is pure entertainment. I'm looking forward to seeing how she manages in book #3.
If Amazon were Disneyland, Dean Koontz would be an 'E' ticket ride.

What can I say? The second Jane Hawk doesn't disappoint even as Jane enters the phase of her story where the problem is so large and overwhelming that she may not be able to succeed even with the help of the few people she meets along the way who are also overcome by the conspiracy to place everyone under the thrall of a shadowy conspiracy.
Great job, Mr. Koontz!

First of all the narration on the audiobook was just overly dramatic and the book just wasn’t. He’s stretching a series and it’s just not that good.
I didn’t get warm with Jane in the first book and I don’t really like her after the second. Sure she’s cool as a cucumber and super hot (as is noted by everybody she encounters) but she always felt distant to me. I think I care more about some of the new characters with far less screen time (or the book equivalent of that) than about her.
The entire book seems to be a chase after the big bad guys with a very anticlimactic ending. I don’t think I will continue Jane’s journey.

I haven't read the first book or two in this series, but I hadn't realized it wasn't the first book until after I started reading it.
The main character is really interesting and is someone I'd like to read and learn more about. She is intense and driven and will do anything for what she believes in and her friends and family.
I was really intrigued by the back and forth nature of the storytelling, with the present day character being so much different than the one in the flashbacks, if you want to call them that. I'm excited to see how things turn out for her going forward and what the author has in store for her.
The writing is also really good and I've enjoyed other books the author has written in the past. I don't think this book will disappoint either.
