I was so looking forward to this book. I expected the same suspense and twists in this book as there was in The Silent Corner. Unfortunately, that just didn't happen. There is nothing more disappointing in anticipating the sequel to a book you really enjoyed than to have it fall flat.
This book felt like a lot of nothing. Hundreds of pages of filler that lost my attention more than it kept my attention. I ended up listening to most of it on audio because I just couldn't force myself to sit and read it.
As a follow-up and conclusion to a very complex story, this book was definitely not one I enjoyed. If I take out the equation of the first book, this was an okay book. Sadly, it did have a first book.
Dean tried to add too many new webs to this ever-changing story. The lines in the story began to blur. At some point, it just made no sense anymore. Nothing of significance happened in this book. It felt like hundreds of pages of filler from just about start to finish.

It took me almost 5 weeks to read this book, and that says a lot for someone who usually reads a book in less than a week.
The Silent Corner was the first Koontz book I'd ever read, and I really enjoyed it. It was fast, thrilling, interesting, and I was really into Jane Hawk the badass. What I didn't know going into that book was that it didn't actually have an end, and I was pretty disappointed. I dislike series books, because I want the story to have a conclusion.
So, I reluctantly purchased this book because I wanted to know what would happen. Boy was I hugely disappointed AGAIN, because it's STILL not over. There's STILL no conclusion. And we're STILL no closer to learning what happened, what's really going on, or who's really behind everything. UGH. And even worse, this story basically went nowhere. It was really just a chase story, with a bunch of completely unbelievable and ridiculous scenarios in which Jane unrealistically escapes unscathed and unnoticed. There was also zero character development, and the opportunities Jane had to ally herself with some decently cool people (Grandpa Bernie, and Sheriff Luther), weren't taken advantage of as much as they should have been.
Koontz is a pretty good writer, so I really had higher hopes. I would also really like to know where this story is going to go (supposedly the sequel comes out this year, in 2018), now that I've invested so much time in the first two books, but I don't know if I can deal with one more book that gives no answers.

I read The Silent Corner a while ago and quite enjoyed it, very different to what I am used to from Koontz. When this became available for request on Netgalley, I just knew I needed to know what would happen with Jane Hawk and her incessant hunt for the truth about a huge conspiracy to control mankind and to avenge her husband.
The Whispering Room picks up almost directly after The Silent Corner, and wastes no time getting the story underway. As with the first novel, it feels like it could have been shorter in some places and felt like it rambled a bit in places, but other than that, barrels along at the speed of light. We have two new characters to sink out teeth into and enjoy what with Luther and Grandpa Bernie, which is nice. Fresh characters can be fun, and I particularly enjoyed Jane teaming up with Luther Tillman. The man is smart and sharp and brave, too, which works wonders for them in the team.
The story unfolds rapidly, and the conspiracy to take over the world for "peace" and all that throws a few spanners into the works along the way, the theory of what this conspiracy club is doing and how and who is in charge and why keeps changing. The term "play Manchurian with me" becomes a really important part of this book, and it was interesting to also read a bit of the story form the perspective of a woman who "has a spider who lives in her brain".
I feel that this Jane Hawk trilogy started strongly and has a follow up that is just as good as the first. I am super interested to see the final part of this story to see how Koontz is going to wrap it up and bring it all to a close. Hopefully soon I will know! The Whispering Room provides another interesting, fast read that has a few characters to truly enjoy, though there are places the book could certainly have been tightened up some.

Yikes- Stepford craziness continues. Exciting books and I still like the main character. Unsure if will read the next one.

I enjoyed this sequel more than the first. It had me at the edge of my seat and even more interested in continuing the series.
I enjoyed the Luther and his family alot and appreciated seeing more of a picture of Jane's life and circle of support.
There were some ....interesting side quests but I was happy with the path the story took. I couldn't have guessed the ending.

This series is just so gripping, and the audiobook narrator draws you in. There’s a real sense of danger for and from every character- any new or old face could be traitor or could end up heartbreakingly turned. Just so, so good.
The whispering Room is the second book in Jane Hawk series and continues where the first book left off.
Jane, an indomitable and resourceful ex-FBI agent, is in pursuit of people responsible for her husband’s suicide and the death of so many other innocents. Who is friend and who is enemy? Can she put an end to the perpetrators and bring them to justice?
