Titillating subject, but good writing. Lots of repetitiveness. Too long for this reason. Needed a little more revising in my opinion.

Ah. No book needs to be over 600 pages. So much of this felt unnecessary like it was long just because it could be. I’m going to assume the editor let it slide due to Oates’s notoriety.

I wasn’t a fan of the way the book was written. The “voice” of the story is odd - which may make sense later in the story, but I could not will myself to keep going. I also could not get past some of the same descriptive words used throughout the book. Who would describe eyes as “pebble” or “suet” in color? 

It might be a good book for most, but not for me.
