I think the only reason I didn’t mark it 5 stars is that I’m not (yet) clever enough to fully apprehend everything Susan Sontag is saying. She has numerous references that I’m way to young to know of but I was happy to check on the World Wide Web ;). It feels disturbing that her essays are still so accurate today… I think this just made me want to read everything from her so bad and I’m in awe in front of her mind!

You know it's awesome when your copy is so heavily annotated that you can't even see what was originally written.
Beautifully, amazingly written. I'm gonna keep coming back to it.
It reeks of Oscar Wilde. There's so much love for Oscar Wilde in this. I love it!!

I'm very much a fiction reader. This was interesting to learn but felt difficult to go through even though it's so short.
( 4 stars )
this was kind of delightful. “notes on camp” was so interesting and i loved sontag’s use of oscar wilde quotes! i think i actually understood both essays which was a pleasant surprise.
in the second essay, sontag says that boredom doesn’t exist and is really just a name for a “certain species of frustration” and i love that. it’s true, and it’s going to stick with me.
