3.8 stars. Such good writing. The way books “used to be” before the last few years of slop.

Thanks goodreads—I found this book because of a comment someone left on a friends review in my feed

This had so much potential but didn't deliver by any means.
The writing is choppy, the characters were forgettable, and the narration of the audiobook was awful.
I even fell asleep at one point listening to it and didn't miss a thing when I woke back up.

This was not my best ready by Gregg. I took me 50% to get into the storyline and I felt like there was a lot of duplication. Once the story got interesting, I wanted to read to the ending.

A beach book, it passed the time, but was predictable and overly wordy at times.

This book was another disappointment for me. Instead of giving up on it, I pushed through the story. The story seemed to go interesting, boring, interesting, boring, interesting, boring, and so on and so on. Then finally it picked up about page 150 (it's a 369 page book) then it got a little boring, but not like before. By the time I got to the end, I had guessed the ending about 20 or so pages before and it wasn't that great of an ending in my opinion. It had a great plot but a poor execution of the plot. Gregg Olsen had a way of conteantly telling me who characters were throughout the story almost like I would never remember and it drove me kind of nuts. I probably won't read the book again but it was at least decent.

Felt like he rushed the ending. I’ve read other Olson books I liked a lot.

I wanted to love this book, it sounded like a great premise for a story. It was hard to connect with the main character and the ending was quite anti climactic.

Excellent mystery/thriller! Olsen's writing is really quite good - asking for emotional responses from readers and keeping readers guessing pretty much until the end.

Some have found this book "too predictable" but I didn't find it predictable at all. In fact, I wish Olsen had penned a sequel. :)
