I received this as an eARC through Edelweiss.
Asra is a demigod with the power to write the future and rewrite the past. Ina is one of the local villagers, who Asra has fallen in love with. However, when Asra learns that Ina is getting married, she attempts to change the future to create a world where they can be together. This sparks a deadly course of events that leads to Ina's village being destroyed and her transforming into a dragon bent on revenge. Asra, travels across the land to stop Ina. Asra attempts to keep her power a secret, but soon she is wrapped up in royal intrigue and must find her destiny before many more people die.
I have not read the first book in this series, so perhaps I would have liked it better if I had. I had trouble connecting with the characters. It was hard for me to care what happened to any of them. I can appreciate a queer main character.

I don't know why YA books have this trend of the person wielding so much power being so dumb otherwise. Making the poorest decisions and being dumb as rocks when truth slaps on their face. It is annoying.

Inkmistress was just fine. It's your typical fantasy adventure story, which was formulaic in nature. We follow our blood-magic wielding healer/alchemist heroine (who was obsessed with this one village girl romantically) venturing outside her comfort zone and following her love obsession after some kind of magical accident involving the two. Yeah...one can tell from my description that this book is forgettable.
This was high fantasy (though not the highest) with a soft magic system (though not that soft 'cause it still follows some rules/techniques.) I admit that the lore behind its world was rich, but if we take a step back and view the whole novel in a vacuum, IT'S NOTHING SPECIAL. My main gripe with it was the whole 3rd act because the narrative felt disconnected.
Pretty sure it'll dip down a little upon revisiting, but it's a 6/10 for now. Need fresh rereading for updates and justifications.

DNF @ 64%
I....I really wanted to like this one & choosing to dnf wasn’t an easy one.
This was so promising, it starts off with the introduction of a f/f relationship between a demigod & a mortal girl. The mortal girl ends up finding her manifest, an animal people have the ability to change into that is a part of their life & symbolizes maturity. Her manifest comes out of unfortunate circumstances but she can manifest into a white dragon, powerful and uncommon for a manifest.
Their relationship begins to crumble, the girl, Ina, becomes set on revenge after a tragedy strikes her town but the demigod, Asra (the main ch), doesn’t think that’s the right way to go.
I ended up being more interested in Ina’s storyline than Asra’s and Asra seemed very childish & her different morals and feelings conflicting one another. Blah.

[Reviewer has accepted that nothing will recreate reading "Of Fire And Stars", even other books from the author, but she's still disappointed] [wanted more sapphic nomad vibes] [too much plot]
Graphic: Death, Toxic relationship, and Death of parent
Moderate: Violence
Minor: Infertility and War

It's very young YA, and I had to force myself to make it through. The story does pick up and I enjoyed it in the end.
