A solid installment; more mystery and detective-ing than the last couple in the series, which I appreciate. The overall motive felt pretty contrived but the action was engaging enough. I'm just not sure when Mary and Sherlock ever get any actual rest??

I felt like there wasn't enough plot in this one. It picked up in the latter half.
This one just didn't do it for me. I've given up on this series once before when I found one of the stories tedious, but then I came back later and got super into it again, so I'm not saying I'm going to give up again, but I won't be buying the next one in hardback. Not least because this one was riddled with typographical errors - mostly paragraphs starting at a random point in the sentence, but also what I'm guessing was an overzealous -ize -> -ise conversion that left this UK edition with numerous references to "fields of maise" - I did wonder if it was a historical spelling but couldn't find any mention that it's ever been anything but "maize" in the UK when I looked it up. Just too many things distracting me from a not particularly strong mystery, it just never stopped feeling like I was reading a book rather than living with the characters.
