Agent Books and Agent Braun pick us a case of with a new character, Simon Boswell. Simon was employed at the London office of the Ministry when Eliza first arrived but shortly after this case he left for fresh scenery.

The next case to come to light at the Ministry is another haunting. Since no other agent wants the case, or is too busy, Simon is pushed to attending to another haunting case heading off without his partner. The victim, Mrs. Honeywood, a gorgeous widowed lady, has also lost her two children around the same time as her archaeologist husband. Has been hearing strange sounds and voices at night.

This story has a few different voices to it for different characters, making it easy to differentiate the characters. The main narrator has a different sound as you know it's not a character talking.

We meet Simon, who seems to be a proper gentleman. We learn quickly of this character in this short 26 minute podcast. Agent Campbell makes a brief appearance here as well. Once again there is a glimpse into the equipment the Ministry has on hand for the agents in accordance with their cases.

This is a ghost haunting story, in a steampunk-ish world.

Having never read O.M. Grey's work to this point but seeing her name bandied about when it came to steampunk authors, I decided to take a shot, and what's better than a free short story? I'm glad I did. The story doesn't just cut to the chase; instead, it introduces us to three distinct officers that I'm sure play a larger role in the future (I wanted to do this review before reding any more from Ms. Grey), and the story itself is a traditional ghost tale set in her world.

The prose was flowing, the plot pretty basic (it's a short story, not a knock) and it got to the point without another 2,500 words of padding, which I like. Obviously a writer that uses every word she needs when writing...

I'll be diving into the rest of O.M. Grey's work next!

This was a short story that I got as a freebie on Amazon. I went into it without reading much about plot or genre and was quite surprised.

Dust on the Davenport is a paranormal/horror story with a nice twist. You might know that I'm not hugely keen on horror books, but this one was actually creepy in a good way. The writing was good and the setting was interesting, my only complain is that it's too short! I would've loved to see more of the agency and the characters, but this story felt more like a preview of something bigger.
