a bit sad, but also sweet - a fresh story with engaging illustrations

Touching and beautiful. The art work is superb. Bold lines and a cinematic feel bring the city and the increasing snow to life. Young readers will identify with the aspect of being small in such a large place. The story follows a child alone in the city giving advice to someone unknown. The story unfolds beautifully, highlighting the empathy and compassion the child has for this unknown recipient.

Kind of a heart-wrenching book! I enjoyed the loose illustrations, and the bit of a mystery in the storyline. This would be a great book for any child who's lost a pet or is looking for a lost pet, to see a story that's reflecting their reality. Parents might find it more touching than the kids, as they can see what's coming, and since the somewhat vague ending can be interpreted a couple of different ways.

Mixed feelings on this one. I really didn't think it was about a boy and his missing cat who he is giving advice to until I read the LOC record.

I can't remember what "best of" list I saw this on, but I placed a recommendation for purchase and was surprised when it popped up in my eBook feed months later. It is a book that needs to be read more than once. (BTW, don't read the synopsis on the verso before you read it). I also thought the main character could have been a girl.

Beautiful art. Spare text that adds to the feeling of being small. An emotional twist I did not see coming. Love this one so much!

I didn't expect this book to be so sad. It was entertaining but sad. The illustrations were lovely.

A child navigating their city home explains tips and tricks for getting around, which turn out to be aimed at a lost pet, as the snow starts to fall faster and faster. I love the gradual twist in the story as you realize who the child is talking to and what the situation is. Tension builds as the snow comes down more furiously. This somber story has an ultimately hopeful ending and is a great childs-eye-view of an urban landscape.
