I love Anna Todd’s writing because it feels so easy to read. This book has so much potential and I’m hoping it will take off in the second book that releases soon. I love both of the main characters, especially Karina. Karina was relatable to me and Anna Todd addresses some real world issues in this book involving police cruelty, LGBTQ+ rights, and mental health disorders like PTSD and anxiety. I love how this book showcases many different ways that intimacy can look like but I kept wanting more from the characters and plot. I hope the second book delivers that.
This is a rebranding of The Brightest Stars, which I loved when it first came out. I can't wait to read the rest finally!
*This book was sent to me by the PR company to give an honest review in return*
This book is republished and is about Karina who has grown up at an army base and meets a brooding man, Kael, where a spark has lit for the both of them but their relationship is tested. I realized that I read this book when it first came out when some of the scenes were very similar to what I remembered. Let me say that what I rated in the past is the same rate as when I finished it today. I have to say that I love Todd's writing when she writes short chapters so it's easy to fly through the book because I read it in one sitting. I do have to say that the conflicts in the book were a little bland and not much of a conflict. Compared to her After series, there were more conflicts compared to this one. The pacing was fast which I enjoyed and liked how the story played out. I wish there was a bit more to it to make the story pop out more.
This book is from Karina's pov and she has baggage. There is not much that we know about her and I think we will in the upcoming books. She's a character that we will see slowly develop in the story. Kael is our male lead and not my favorite guy. It's probably because we also don't know much about him so I will have to see if I will like him in the upcoming books. There were many side characters in this book who I hope to see again in the next book. The romance is friends to lovers and so far I don't really ship them yet. I feel that both characters have their own baggage that they need to go through.
The ending wasn't a HEA or a cliffhanger. Think like the ending of After if you have read it. I think this book will be better in the upcoming novels as this one felt more like getting the storyline all out and then focusing on the characters in the upcoming books. Even though there were some problems with this book, I will still read the next one just to see if the story improved. If you want a book with a military "wife" type of story then this one is for you.

The Falling is an extremely slow burn, almost a little too painfully slow. I wanted to enjoy this one more than I did, but will I read the sequel? Most probably. The miscommunication trope is strong in this one and some pages I found it frustrating, while other pages I found it to be a little endearing as I could see myself doing the same thing. Karina and Kael have a far less toxic relationship than other characters Anna Todd has written, but at the same time I wanted more fire from the both of them. I understand this started as a very short novel originally titled The Brightest Stars, and I feel as though now that it is going to be a potential series, this may just be the build up to the next book. It just left me wanting more than some broken hearts at the end. (This is not a spoiler; you find this out at the very beginning of the book).

I almost DNF'd this one, but because I love Anna so much and am the biggest fan of her After series, I kept on!
This one was just all over the place for me. My dislike for Karina was strong and a lot of her inner monologue (that stretches far and beyond, dear lord) really stole from the romance in this one. I kept waiting for it, braced myself for the slow-burn, but...just didn't get it. At all. It was just awkward.
I hate that this didn't do it for me, but I'm also a sucker for the second book in a series, so maybe I'll like the next one? Here's hoping.

Not a good book, poorly written. Not a strong plot.

Not my most favorite of books by Anna Todd. I thought the pacing was a little slow, and the characters were so different from each other, painfully so. I had no idea where my brain was at while reading this book, but I just didn't connect with the characters at all. I couldn't stand Karina, and maybe it's me, not sure, but I just wasn't feeling it, and was not going to DNF it.
