The Ballad of Melodie rose follows on from The Heartsong of Wonder Quinn and has the same dreamy and poetic quality. It also shares the same themes of loss, death, grief, and memory. These books would be great middle grade classroom books for discussions on those topics and from an English language perspective the author plays with language beautifully.
When Melodie Rose is abandoned on the doorstep of Direleafe Hall she realises she must be a ghost... she must be, as she can see other ghosts and no-one sees her.
When Melodie finds out that a mysterious Woman in White has plans to purchase the Hall and bulldoze her new (and seemingly forever) home she and her new friends need to stop the sale... but what can a few ghosts do?
This a gentle and poetic story with darker themes handled in a sensitive way. Suitable for 7 +.

Was looking for a quick read from the children's books and imagined Direleafe Hall to be like Hogwarts. I personally wasn't a fan of Melodie Rose, she was nice, but seemed to jump to her own conclusions. Otherwise, it was a cute quick read and Hollowbeak was one of my favourite characters.
