Sweet sci-fi romance

I loved this book! Aavat and Shenna have such a great dynamic and I loved seeing them together. This book is incredibly well written, with characters that felt real right off the bat.

I absolutely adore Shenna. From book 1, I was expecting her to be quiet and sweet. From her interactions early in the book, we quickly learn Shenna is quite perceptive, stands up for herself, while being incredibly agreeable, down-to-Earth, and humble. Yet, she also has an immense amount of inner strength hidden under her shy demeanor. She stands up for herself when separately tells off both Aavat and another girl who bullies her without being mean.

Aavat calmed down over the course of the first book, and it was a good guess that he’d end up with Shenna after he agreed to take in her cat. His POV chapters make him much more likable, as it becomes clear that he’s a bit of a bumbling idiot, and isn’t (always) being difficult on purpose.

Zipped right thorough this book, and again, I didn’t feel enough time was spent developing the relationship. Also her reason to feel like a monster was, if not silly, felt out of left field for a grown woman to punish herself for. The plot moved in a different direction, so I lost interest and won’t be read on any more. It looks like it’s another 2 or more books before the plot picks up again, and I don’t have enough desire to keep reading at this time.
