this was my first dark romance ever…are they all this ABSURD???
I'm a bit conflicted here. I loved the concept of this book, but the execution....wasn't great. I ended up DNFing at like 72%. The inconsistencies really pulled me out of the story. Eden taking of her stockings (with her shoes still on mind you) then 2 paragraphs later taking them off again? And the description of "the sound of metal on metal" when she's using a rock on a car. I don't know, just felt off. Simple mistakes and repetitions that should have been caught by a cursory read through. Also, the brief bondage felt like a throw away trope. Why does a priest who has committed to God and claimed to never dabble with women since his committment, have a bondage closet? That up until 72% was used for like 3 pages. Felt like a desperate attempt at some Shades of Grey.
Anywho! Roman and his filthy mouth kept this at 3 stars lol.
Edit: I do love having pictures in between some chapters but they don't match the characters at times. No scars, varying tattoos, a tank top/bra in the bathtub.

I liked the premise of the book, however parts of the book fell through. There are a few major things that weren't executed well:
The characters feel stiff and lack any kind of nuances. They don't really have any personalities apart from their background which is trauma.
The romance part happened way too quickly and went way too far. I don't mind insta-love in books, however this kind of ruined the existing tension in the relationship.
In one of the scenes the use of a safe word was discussed, but when it was used it was completely disregarded. Total ICK.
Certain topics were added to the book, but weren't discussed properly and felt like the point of adding those was for the shock value such as, sexual assault, child abuse, and human trafficking.
I was pleasantly surprised when I saw that this book had character artwork, however it's all AI and all artwork of characters looks completely different.
The ending was kind of boring and predictable. And while I had fun reading this book, looking back I can't say it's of a great value.

The glaring one for me was the clear lack of editing and revision. Dialogue is often unclear and the description of what the characters are doing often doesn’t make sense, on top of numerous punctuation errors.
The second thing was the blatantly obvious AI artwork throughout the book that often didn’t even match the descriptions of the characters. How hard would it have been to commission a real artist to accurately depict the characters??
I also don’t think the content warnings at the beginning of book are nearly strong enough given the multiple graphic descriptions of SA and rape.
