*4.5 stars* I feel weird giving this a star rating but whatever this also feels right. I think I need to sit with this for a while.

I LOVED this book. I listened to it on audio from my Libby app, and Field herself narrated it. Having the actual person narrate their own audiobook is always next level for me.⁣⁣

I thought I knew Sally Field before reading this book. I, for sure, had an image and perception of her in my mind of this shit together, strong, bold female. I was very wrong. If I can say this in the most loving way possible...Sally Field is a hot mess. But she embraces it, and she’s still learning from it 60 some odd years later, and she is so candid about it in this memoir that I am INSPIRED.⁣⁣

There were some tough subjects faced in this book and also some tough truths about motherhood that I had to face. There were parts that made me uncomfortable, but in a way that inspires growth and change so I’m okay with it.⁣⁣

I won’t say too much more incase you decide to listen or read for yourself. I highly recommend this memoir, I feel like there is something in here everyone can relate too.⁣⁣

It’s been a pleasure Sally ✨

Growing up on "Gidget" and "The Flying Nun," followed by "Norma Rae," "Places in the Heart," and "Steel Magnolias," I've always loved Sally Field, especially playing the matriarch in "Brothers and Sisters" and seeing her impassioned speeches in support of LGBTQIA rights.

I listened to In Pieces on audio so I could hear Field tell her story. I was taken off guard to learn she had been sexually abused by her stepfather...somehow I had not seen any information about that before I read the book. She hated "The Flying Nun" and "Gidget," and Burt Reynolds was a complete tool and waste of space.

Listening to Sally tell her story felt like an old friend sharing her intimacies with me.

It was interesting to see her viewpoint of herself and the order of her accomplishments. However, it never quite fully came together for me. It felt very pieced together, it didn’t flow as much as I thought it would. I’m glad I read it but not completed thrilled about it either.

Nothing about the life of Sally Field is simple.
Her relationships - esp. with her mother- were all complicated. Very pure and straight-forward, sharing the ups and downs of her life, she has literally lived a life in pieces.
Pieces, that once fit together, give you a more complete picture. Like a jigsaw whose picture is not totally revealed until the last piece is placed. Then it is amazing.

Sallys honesty and candor, her willingness to share the difficult and contentious pieces of her life, with such truth and courage. This is a surprising and compelling life story, I never knew her life was so complicated.. She shares it all with humor and I really feel like I know who she is, not just what she has done. This was hard to put down and loved her honesty and willingness to share all the pieces of her complicated life.
Recommended. Amazing.

This was really good. It felt sadder than I expected, both in content and in Field's narration and although I wasn't sure about it initially, the book grew on me.

Skipped a couple of episodes because I could not see any ups and downs of her autobiography.

I’ve generally started abiding by the idea that you don’t want to or shouldn’t rate memoirs because it feels like you’re rating that person’s life. That being said, there were a few things about the way the story was told that felt a little disjointed to me.

I did listen to the audiobook. I think my new favorite genre is “audiobooks of stars’ memoirs” because it sort of feels like a conversation in the car with a friend. This friend definitely said some things that had me in a bit of shock, but it was interesting to learn about her as a person.
