This was an OK read- nothing to hate about it, but I also highly doubt the story will stick with me for long. I did enjoy learning about Audrey Munson after reading the authors note.

This is my first Fiona Davis novel (although I own almost all of them!) and it did not disappoint. You’ll want to share this one with your art-museum-loving/bibliophile friends.
The two timelines drew me in; the relationship between Miss Helen and Lillian, with the mixture of mystery and a good scavenger hunt kept me going. The romance storyline was a bit predictable but not annoyingly so.
The concept of building a masterpiece of a novel from a statue over the entry to a building is a brilliant one. After reading the author’s note in the end, I’m completely impressed with her seamless ability to marry fact with fiction and look forward to visiting the Frick collection one day. As a bit of a New York junkie, I cannot wait to read another one of her novels and see what secrets the next landmark holds.

Really slow start. Plot driven. The main characters were unloveable and so were most of the secondaries. There was a "poor me" feel to the female leads that made me constantly cringe. I loved the historical gilded age setting and all of the art details.

An easy, enjoyable read. Not a lot of depth - but fun and quick.
Absolutely intriguing from the start. Blending between two times and betrayals the author has brought us a mystery that only the finest can unravel. I genuinely enjoyed this tale and am so extremely glad it was recommended to me. Angelica is so very lost and alone in the past portions of this book, my heart really went out to her. Veronica, on the other hand, felt a little rough around the edges and tough girl trying to survive. Both women were lacking in love and a lot of tenderness in their lives. The feelings this story evoked were as raw to me as the betrayals both young women have felt. What I found cool was the Author’s Note at the end, how she tied in real historical people, places & art into the telling. I love when authors tell you where their thoughts came from.
