A nice read! I enjoyed the 1919 timeline the most but did like Veronica and Joshua putting the puzzle together decades later as well. The parallels between Lillian and Veronica made for a great deal of predictability, but I enjoyed it regardless. The setting is lovely.

This book takes place in two time lines both at the same location. It begins in 1919 and also covers a few days in 1966, at the Frick residence/museum.

In 1919 Lillian poses for artists. She is the muse to many statues in New York. She goes by the name Angelica. She was very young when she started modeling and her mother was always present. After her mother’s passing, her life changes drastically. Her landlord makes a pass at her. Then he kills his wife. Lillian is approached by the police and is wanted for questioning about the murder. She flees the scene. She is completely innocent but she worries that she’ll wind up in jail. She has to start life over somewhere else. She thinks that will be Hollywood but she winds up at the Frick home. She begins work as the personal secretary for Helen Frick. Things are better for awhile before taking a turn for the worse. Lillian really has seriously bad luck.

In 1966, Veronica is a model. She’s not in love with her job but she needs the money to support her family. She walks away from a modeling job at the Frick and winds up stuck there for a few days with a historian. They find clues to a scavenger hunt and start playing to pass the time. They uncover something pretty amazing that belonged to the Frick family. What they uncover may lead to solving a huge mystery.

Interesting slice of history. I was distracted unfortunately because I know I read something else that was based on the model that inspired Lillian’s character and I can’t remember what it was. If anyone else can remember, please share.
