The only reasons this wasn’t a DNF is because I have a problem putting down books I don’t like and because it was for book club. The mystery at the end was mildly engaging…but overall, it just wasn’t my cup of tea.
Loved this Knives Out thriller-esque and historical fiction masterpiece that felt a lot like I was visualizing Bridgerton especially during the early 1900s. I DESPISED Miss Helen and Mr. Frick and I think that was the author's intention. It was clear from reading the author's note, Davis did a lot of background on The Frick Collection and combining some facts about a super model back in the 1900s to create a combination that was thrilling and mysterious. I loved Veronica's similarities and eventual collision with Lillian. I would love to read more of Davis's novels!

I liked the fact that the book was inspired on a real place and is an oda to real people (even though the circumstances of their life and deaths were very different) but I appreciate the authors efforts to “take real-life events and people and mixed them up with fiction.
However I didn’t liked that the main plot was heavily driven by silly misunderstandings that made no sense to me based on the characters personalities, which took me away from believing this characters were real.
It made no sense that the police were looking by Lilian “Angelica” on two (2) different occasions, as she was the main suspect on two (not related) murders; but they weren’t able to find her (one of said murders been that of a influence rich man. But two young people (18 and 21 years old) and an old woman (60 something years old) were able to find her after couple of hours?
The book is interesting and the painting descriptions as well, but the longer I though about the plot, the more I noticed how little sense everything made across the story.
I was a “fun” read but I have the feeling I’ll not remember this book in couple of months.
