This novel is split into verse and prose, where verse is for Calli and prose for Jinsong. Calli lives with Tourette syndrome and has just moved to a new town/school with her boyfriend-seeking mom. Calli doesn’t make friends very easily, but meets Jinsong in her apartment complex and they instantly hit it off. As Calli navigates her new school, her tics start to become harder to control - even Jinsong finds it hard to be her friend while at school. This novel is about friendship, all while dealing with overcoming fears and stepping up to bullying. I remember buying this book while in Vegas last year (and the fact that it mentions the characters ending up in Vegas was cool) and really liked the cover. I’m glad that I picked it up and bought it, as sometimes the books we know nothing about are some of the best stories to pick up and devour in one day 😊

🎧 I cannot say that this is my normal genre but I was scrolling through Libby looking for a super short and highly rated audiobook and this one met both of those standards! Plus I was immediately drawn to the cover because 😍

📚 I would highly recommend this to any middle-grade reader but also to adults looking for a short, meaningful read!

What I loved
🌸 the writing style
I’ve never read anything written in verse like this!
🌸 short and quick chapters
I read this in under 3 hours
🌸 diverse cast of characters
cognitively and ethnically
🌸 dual POV
+ two different audiobook narrators
🌸 characters written to act their ages
7th graders acting like 7th graders
🌸 interesting look into Tourette’s and the stigmas associated with it
🌸 HEA

Why not 5 stars
🚙 I wish Calli got a better apology from her mom
🚙 the mom and other stupid adults

Favorite Quotes
📖 “Wouldn't talking about something make it better understood?”
📖 “Wanna know something about the moon? No matter where you’re standing on earth, it always looks the same”

The audiobook was phenomenal but I hate reading about bullies being forgiven.
