It was slow and not a ton of payoff. While the story was good it’s not as into the relationship as I normally like

This one wasn’t for me. I think my biggest issue was that some scenes and metaphors would be extended for far too long and other things that were described as “obvious” were brushed over. I did not feel connected to any of the characters, and wanted to learn more about the minor ones. The premise of this book was very interesting and some moments were compelling, but overall the execution wasn’t my favorite thing.

This bookish book has a lot of purple prose which I don't normally enjoy, but I found this engrossing. I desperately wanted to know what happened, but it wasn't the reveal I had hoped for. I still enjoyed it, but this didn't produce the feelings I normally expect from a romance. The tension almost gave me thriller vibes, so maybe that's why the reveal was anticlimactic to me. I would try another of their books.
