Incredibly informative on the dangers of modern globalization through capitalism & the origins of COVID-19. A few things to take away:

Global capitalist practices of commodifying healthcare; industrializing agriculture and livestock; expanding mining, infrastructures, and tourism into remote regions; sacrificing nature for profit; and promoting consumerism among increasingly urbanized people suffering more and more chronic health conditions increase the risk of animal-borne viruses spilling over into humans and triggering catastrophic pandemics. So whichever hypothesis turns out to be the case, it is evident that the investigation of the origins of COVID-19 isn't about tracing the pandemic to a "patient zero," "bat zero," "ground zero," a cultural practice, or a specific spillover event-it is ultimately about revealing the structural conditions of global capitalism that give rise to novel infectious diseases with pandemic potential, and exposing the limitations of biomedical approaches and ecomodernist frameworks that conceal the urgent need for agro-ecological and sustainable transformations that cultivate public health and the common good.
