I am astoundingly surprised that I never came across The Giver in my youth especially considering I read Number the Stars in elementary school.
I find that The Giver is the dystopian novel before the mainstream dystopian novels. I normally despise an over-fixation on setting over plot. However, Lowry pulls back the curtain in a way that kept me guessing.
I feel as though there are a number of themes related to childhood and adulthood, knowledge and ignorance, free will and control. Somehow it seems that our world closely wants to resemble one that prefers ignorance and control and associates age with wisdom. However, we would lose sight of the love and color and freedom that we enjoy by becoming complacent with the status quo.
Great read overall!

My first time reading The Giver since elementary school.
It's amazing how time (and age) shifts your perception of things. For some reason I didn't recall the ending.
