I liked it, but some parts were a bit like "huh?", in my opinion. Like when Jonas gets the "Stirrings" and stuff. And the whole killing and government control. So I can see why some people want this book banned.
But this book does give the reason why we shouldn't have totalitarian governments. I would say that in a way, this is like a fantasy/dystopian version of Animal Farm.
Of course, I'm not a big fantasy/dystopian reader, but if you are, maybe you'll like this.
Just so you know, there are sexual references, infanticide, and euthanasia. So read this story at your own risk if you would like. I'm not going to say that it should be banned, I just think maybe not all kids my age (15) or younger are ready for the topics discussed in this story. I'd rate this book for ages 11-12+, but everyone is different and everyone has different knowledge levels on certain topics.

I read this book in elementary and it's still one of my favorites. This was my first dystopian book and I've loved the genre ever since.
Beautiful story of a dystopian society. Also a top favorite book for me.

I am not even quite sure when I read this, we are going to go with 2016 because I do believe it was around 8th grade. This book absolutely rocked my world and made me think about life differently. Jonah's story was so insane, when we realize what he has been seeing is the color red my jaw was on the floor. This book is so profound and honestly changed my brain chemistry. Will forever be a favorite of mine. Yes, yes, a thousand times yes, and honestly need to do a re-read.
