"The Giver" is indeed a profoundly impactful and thought-provoking novel, and it continues to resonate with me long after my initial reading. It prompts considerable reflection on the significance of genuine freedom and the complete range of human experiences, which are often absent in its seemingly "perfect" society. This book leaves me with a sense of deep concern regarding its unsettling implications, while simultaneously instilling hope for its courageous protagonist.
Re-reading in 2012. I'd like to read the entire series now that Son has been released.
Devoured this one but wow that was one abrupt ending!
I actually liked this a lot more than I expected… a cool concept and the writing is good. But wtf was that ending… I need to do some research. Also the relief I felt when the giver said rosemary was his daughter LOL
I know Sarah Dietrich is going to kill me for only giving this 3 stars, but I really hate the ending. It didn't live up to the rest of the book for me - which was fabulous. I find it to be really theoretical for a YA novel, and thus it has the potential to bea very memorable book for a reader of any age.

A very fascinating world that feels to be merely scratched rather than explored deeply. The themes and implications are well worth the read.
I would have given it three stars if not for the ending, which was very frustrating. I was intrigued by the concepts in the book but I wish it was a little more clear about what's going on! I'm aware there is meant to be a deeper meaning/symbolism in the book but even with that idea governing what goes on in the final scene, it doesn't satisfy me fully. Need more answers!

I wasn’t expecting to like this book so much. There a few things I didn’t like, but the overall theme was really good!
