We deserve more books that are illustrated like this. It's a solid read about a 13-year-old who runs away from home to a graveyard to escape from his stepfather's abusive ways. It wasn't as impactful or memorable as Smy's previous work, but the format sure kept me engaged.

This feels like such a natural progression for Pam after the success of Thornhill: The Hideaway deals with some similar themes and builds on the highly illustrated graphic-novel-novel format. And it’s the illustrations that truly make this book. Pam’s artwork is gorgeously textured, well-observed and masterfully crafted, interconnecting with the written narrative to emotive, atmospheric effect. Highly recommended for fans of illustration, ghost stories or British YA fiction.

Känsloväckande, fantastiska illustrationer och ett otroligt djup som ger något till läsare i alla åldrar, men med ett lite för abrupt slut.

I went into this one not knowing what to expect and ended up really enjoying it.

All the characters are really well written and developed. It shows lots of different types of relationships really well.

The story follows a boy running from a domestic violence situation at home and his mother's search for him. However it also has a bit of a supernatural element with ghosts appearing towards the end of the story.

The artwork was simple but effective especially towards the end of the book where the story becomes mostly told through the pictures rather than the text.

I read this one in one sitting as it is quite a quick read and I was hooked and wanted to know what happened.
