...I have no words... it was so complete and satisfying? And it was a brilliant conclusion to TMI... and now we continue with TDA & TLH^^

The series should've been 4-5 books max, def overextended which is a shame be it was v engaging most of the time. The magic system started out strong but began to unravel as the Shadow world expanded. You know when you're writing an essay and it's actually pretty good but you're well under your word count and you have to add relevant filler and it undermines the integrity of your thesis? It was like that, except the conclusion was also good. Simon was lowkey the backbone of the whole series and I don't think he gets enough credit for that. His friendship w/ Clary literally had me crying in the end.
The tIdr: The series was good but it could've been so much better had it been condensed and just a little more meticulously written. Still, fun nostalgic (sometimes campy) Buffy the Vampire Slayer vibes and lovable characters w/ good development and chemistry. Will be reading the remaining series but maybe skipping the one offs.

Actual rating: 3.5 stars.
Overall, this was a satisfying conclusion to the series. I loved the journey that these characters went on in this last book of the series and the climax was truly exhilarating.
Sadly, it also had some major flaws.
First of all, the book had a very slow start. I frequently enjoy slow-paced books, but I found this book to be much longer than it needed to be.
Moreover, it shows the story from the perspectives of rather a lot of characters and I honestly wasn't interested in some of them.
Furthermore, major consequences have been undone enough times that there is a tendency for major plot points to feel inconsequential.
Lastly, it felt like it cut short a lot of character growth for one particular character.
Despite all of this, I enjoyed reading about this wonderful world full of loveable characters where the possibilities of interesting stories seem limitless. Nonetheless, I am unsure whether I am going to continue with The Shadowhunter Chronicles as I have heard that my problems with this book are present in all of Cassandra Clare's other Shadowhunter works.

Spoiler
Instead of finally seeing Simon come to terms with his vampirism, he is turned back into a mortal with no recollection of the Shadow World. I understand that this may be of use in later Shadowhunter books, but it negatively affects my enjoyment of this particular series.Despite all of this, I enjoyed reading about this wonderful world full of loveable characters where the possibilities of interesting stories seem limitless.
