Done with the reread. I will never get over this series. The epilogue made me cry many happy tears. Onto the rest of the shadowhunter universe.

And so the story concludes. What a story it’s been! Though without spoiling it I did think the resolution with Sebastian would have been more epic?! But we can’t have everything I suppose and I’ve still rated it 5 stars beloved I enjoyed it every step of the way!

I read this WAY too fast and now I’m sad. I don’t want it to be over. But thankfully there are novellas that I still need to read that sort of continue the series in a way.

But Cassandra Clare always seems to get me with her epilogues. And whenever someone from The Infernal Devices was mentioned, I totally did not fight back tears.

Now this also won the Goodreads Choice Award???????? I am loosing my faith....

I have never been a huge fan of this series - I thought the first three books were okay, nothing special, but okay. Then the forth and the fifth were simply bad but you know, you've read 5 books so you kind of go for number 6 as well, just to know how it ends.
Now I wish I wouldn't have even bothered. Seriously, why this series is so successful and has such a good rating here is beyond my understanding. This is just like Twilight. It is horribly written, has an awful, ridiculous story and the characters are stupid.

So first of all: When I saw this book had 700 freaking pages I rolled my eyes. I don't mind a book of that length IF it has the story to justify this. This book could have easily been cut down to half of its length and still be too long. How many useless monologues can you put in there? How much unnecessary chitchat? It was ridiculous and most of these pensive moments were not to show character depth but felt as if Clare just wanted to show HER depth. Isabelle and Clary basically never really talk, spend time together, share, bond in any way but we're forced to read a far too long reflection on sisterhood...

Also the last instalment should be tying up the loose ends of a story not introduce new ones! I barely kept up with all the characters from the previous 5 books and instead of taking up their story again, the book begins with new characters. If Clare wanted to bring in more (unnecessary) characters and continue their story, she shouldn't have ended the series with this book. But if you know this is the last book, you FINISH the story you already have, not start a new one!

Additionally, what is up with the insulting, stereotypes in this book? It annoyed me to no end. And what the characters had too much in stereotypical behaviour, they lack in any kind of other depth. So Jace is just a devilishly handsome guy who fights better than anyone else in any other world. Clary is the odd one out who in only a short week became better than many other after a lifetime of training. I call Mary Sue on that one.
Simon is the obligatory best friend who got friendzoned.
Ales is the gay friend.
Isabelle is the cold bitch.
That's all I got from these characters, nothing more. It was sad that after 6 books that was all there was left to them.

Now story wise, honestly most of the time I had no idea what the hell was going on. well, let's say on an interesting level - that all of these characters spent most of their time thinking, worrying and lamenting the state of their relationships was painfully clear.
The world is about to end but all these so called heroes and world savers can think about is getting nekkid and doing nasty things to each other? If that's all that's left, don't save this world, please!! Now if these relationships at least would be healthy once, reflecting pure love and devotion I might be swayed but honestly they all only felt sick, horribly sick.
So basically Jace considers killing himself if he ever lost Clary. And Magnus seems to keep Alec around as a personal sex toy, cause he's young and hot. And Simon and Isabelle? Not even 70000 pages would have been enough to convince me of their love. Let's face it: Clare didn't want poor Simon to be alone and the only girl left was Isabelle.

In the end this book tells us unhealthy, almost abusive relationships are perfectly fine, the world ending is no reason not to hump your boyfriend and it's okay to be selfish, self-absorbed and oblivious to the world around you.

Thinking back on the beginning of this series I'm amazed how Clare has managed to make me HATE her books. Not just dislike but truly hate. Her Clockwork books are better, I admit to liking them a lot better than this series, but after finishing this book there is nothing but hate remaining for this world she created. I think her writing is horrid, her vocabulary is only repetitive and her characters are nothing to relate to, let alone become emotionally involved and anxious to know how it goes on.
