This was picked for a book club i was in. I wasn't sure at first it i would like it, but it ended up being a good read! I liked the mystery and suspense aspect to the novel. I wanted to read on to find out more.

The book was okay. I liked the setting and everything. I did roll my eyes a couple of times at the writing

A beautiful, painful, and unique (and very heavy) story about sisterhood, our relationship with nature, and the instincts we are born with. The poetic yet grounded writing enveloped me from the first page, and the story touches on many complex and intimate topics that are important to me, but it does so in ways I haven’t read before. Every line is thoughtfully crafted. The author explores man v woman, human v nature, tradition v change - all in less than 300 pages, and somehow does it in a way that isn’t overwhelming, but deeply touching. Cannot recommend this book enough.

Okay trigger warnings like crazy, this book has very dark and gruesome parts. But it also has truly beautiful, heart achingly profound moments that caught me by such surprise that by the end I was sobbing so too many reasons. This book caught me by surprise and I could not be happier that I picked this up sooner rather than later.

What McConaghy does in this book works so well, and the message she is intending to send to the readers runs deeper than expected. But also please don’t forget to check trigger warnings because what is included is very heavy and brutal.
