More a 3.5 star for me.
Pros: fall vibes, independent nature-loving women, unexpected love, a small-town conspiracy, flashbacks spliced in. The pregnancy/baby was tender and emotional in a surprisingly sweet way. The bits that could have been graphic were not, so yay for that!
Cons: nothing life-changing or earth-shattering. It was a book. I loathe Gus but I guess that means props to the author.

3.5 stars.
The writing was really enjoyable, but it started off very slow and ended up including way way too many elements.
Also, the MC was supposed to be a wolf expert, but acted like the exact opposite throughout the book. The science aspects were unbelievable and it distracted me throughout.
The end of this book was kind of a mess, but I did end up mostly enjoying this one.

I have never read anything like this before. It was really interesting learning about the wolves, but also the story of domestic abuse and the thriller aspect of the book. I really enjoyed the main character, even though she could be brash at times. The ending threw me off a bit from giving it a five star just because it felt a little unrealistic about how things were resolved. Otherwise it was an intriguing read.
