I adore books like this! So cruel, so mysterious and me never having a clue whats actually happening! Felt like a fever dream about girlhood . Gave me bunny vibes and I LOVED bunny!! Enjoyed the writing style! Deliciously dark

I just didn't enjoy it and found it a slog to get through :( Went in expecting vibes-based writing but came away a bit frustrated with the general story beats we were given.

the story line was difficult to follow, at first I enjoyed that it was a bit all over the place since it was from the perspective of children but it got to the point where I wasn’t sure what was happening half the time. I did love the writing style and there were some pretty beautiful and profound statements made in the book
mysterious

I read it.

The premise sounded intriguing and after reading The Lamb by Lucy Rose I was craving more books from the POV of younger girls, but this didn't really live up to my expectations I guess. That said, I'm sure Brutes has it's target audience who will not only love it but understand it. Sadly, I'm not it despite my best efforts. I've read confusing books that feel unfinished before but this just didn't hit the same.
Also completely random but I convinced myself as I was reading that Jody had 2 chapters of her own but when I looked back it seems she didn't? Am I crazy? I think this captures how the whole book made me feel.
